Sound Power Telephone allows communication in an emergency where other communication signals are not available, the energy needed to establish communication comes from a generator installed in each Telephone. When the handle is activated, the condenser is charged, allowing communication to be established. When communication begins to drop, energy can be recharged by re-enabling the handle. This process can be repeated as many times as desired.

Telephones without a battery include a relay built into the circuit board.
