Testing and commissioning is a systematic process of ensuring that the equipment and systems under test operate, within applicable standards and tolerances, are installed by the specifications established at the engineering design stage, and follow the design intent and operational requirements of the proposed project which is stated in the contract documents.

Testing and commissioning services are often required on construction projects where the highest level of reliability is required due to the critical nature of the facility/infrastructure, especially for critical facilities/infrastructure. While some may question the cost benefits of comprehensive acceptance testing, the costs are minimal when compared to damage or loss of equipment if something goes wrong after the equipment is in use.

Before testing and commissioning, testing and commissioning procedures are structured in such a way as to record the configurations performed and also the tests completed. Testing and commissioning are done with a purpose;

• Ensuring that the installed system has performance, functions according to the requirements specified in the Engineering design stage, and is safe and smooth.
• Record and enter in the Operation and Maintenance manual and maintain ongoing performance data during the installation, testing, and commissioning process according to the specified operating baseline.
